We will begin our stems lessons this week with list #1. On Mondays (of a full week of school) students will make a set of flashcards for ten stems. Each stem will have its meaning and a sample word containing that stem. Students should begin studying their stems that evening. During the week we complete other activities to help learn these stems, such as illustrations, using the sample words in a sentence, brainstorming other words containing that stem, and playing games. We will have a quiz on Friday. This week, however we will bump the stems quiz to next Tuesday, September 19, because we have our Out of My Mind test on Friday. We are reviewing for the OOMM test in class. At home students can review their annotations as a review. The questions at the back of the book are a great way to review as well.
We will start our first lesson in SpringBoard on Tuesday. There are a few students who still need to purchase this book.

***Please continue to review your annotations in Out of My Mind. You can use the following Quizlet to review the characters. Please note: I did not create this quizlet. I realize that many names are not capitalized!

This week we will experience three texts that highlight culture: a poem, a music video, and a speech/video. Students will create a cultural poster about themselves. Posters are due Friday! This assignment is written on their pink agenda paper. We will use this paper the first two weeks. If you haven't done so already, please go to www.pay4schoolstuff.com to order agendas, SpringBoard books, and pay locker fees.
Out of My Mind: We will begin reviewing the summer reading book on Tuesday, September 5th. Please have your book in class. Our test on this book is Friday, September 15th.
We need two composition notebooks for ELA. Please be sure to have these! (Spiral notebooks tend to fall apart.)
